Sierra is a video game developer and publisher founded in 1987 by Ken Lightner and Jeff Braun. Sierra is also known as Sierra Entertainment. The company was involved in the development of a number of successful video games such as King's Quest, Space Quest, Leisure Suit Larry and Police Quest. Sierra was  the first company to create a high-quality, action adventure game. The company went into a period of decline in the early 1990s, however, the company recovered and was eventually bought by Infogrames in 1994. The Studio was founded in 1987 in Dallas, Texas by Jeff Braun, a veteran of Electronic Arts. The company was named Sierra and began with the development of a video game based on the film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. The game was, however, ultimately rejected for release. Sierra went on to create several video games based on other film franchises, as well as their own original properties. The company also developed titles for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. Sierra developed and published such notable titles as Police Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Space Quest, and The Quest for Glory series. In June 1994, Sierra was acquired by French publisher Infogrames, where it became part of Infogrames Softline, a subsidiary of Infogrames that focused on developing and publishing computer games. Infogrames Softline continued to produce Sierra games, which included Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards. Sierra also produced games for Sony's PlayStation. Leisure Suit Larry on the PS1 was a major hit. Sierra's last official release for the Sony PlayStation, Leisure Suit Larry 3, was released in 2001. In July 2005, Infogrames was acquired by the French publisher Gameloft. The studio remained in Texas until mid-2009, when it was relocated to Paris. The company's first game under the Gameloft label was Airborne Ranger, which released in August 2009. Sierra was also one of the first games released on the newly launched Ouya. Infogrames Softline filed for bankruptcy in early 2014, and was acquired by Vivendi in early 2015. The company closed down in June 2016, following a legal dispute with its creditors. Leisure Suit Larry creator Don Woods founded a new video game studio, Infamous Melodies, in October 2016. In October 2017, California-based developer Hat Trick announced that it had acquired the rights to the Sierra brand and is developing a "rein
